LXG 4 - Chiefs 1
by Martijn Vliegenthart
This Saturday meant a turnaround in the league….
Thank god it was Saturday again…After Easter and some holidays the LXG warriors were ready to go. We all have been waiting to finish this season in a very positive way. Before the match Paulus Romanus held a very inspiring speech in the dressing room. Besides revealing the strategy with torello, "sovrapositions" and "cucchiaio"’s he told us that the Chiefs Kappelen wouldn’t allow us to easily win this match so the Gentleman knew what to do.
That meant: simply win our matches in order to drive around in open double-decker bus on Grand Place on Saturday the 5th of May. And booze arranged by Kitty o Shea, pizza’s by our Italian enclave of LXG and figas arranged by David Copacabana (everything talks about it but I’m still waiting for this famous moment to come).
I won’t give a small introduction to all players anymore in this report. For the warm up Shaju had gathered his men into in the corner into shape. It was not the first time that we started shite. You could smell the booze from some “Place Lux Regulars” (I won’t call names, but surprisingly those guys played magnificent well).
On the bench where it becomes more and more cozy every week, there were the usual suspects. Our main tifosa Rosita concluded that her public request at the "waggie dinner" last Saturday to get more wags to the pitch did not result in the response she hoped. It was only her me and a new fellow member Marion( tresor de Vivien). Later came Simon, Beata and Fransesco for the co-coaching and scouting from the side.
Martin brought his family and his camera to the pitch so the PAPArazzi was doing his thing and made a photo reportage. He did a good job in the first half but the tifosi did fronse their eyebrows when Martin asked Michal to stand in a pose that was quite….odd. Maybe the guys can explain it this Wednesday.
Enfin, the match:
The game started a little chaotic but it was Peter Puskas who thought that the bench could use some entertainment. After a good rush he gave Endrik the opportunity to score. 1-0, which was a relief for a couple of players. Meanwhile Marco Primadonna asked ten times in a minute how many minutes were left before half time…Can somebody please give this guy an LXG stopwatch?
Just before the half time it was Peter who pulled the trigger himself and scored 2-0. It seemed that this could became a very nice afternoon with lots of sunshine and nice football.
In the first part of the second half we played more relaxing. We missed some chances, became a little nonchalant and yes, there he is …I didn’t name him, but off course also the man in black wants to be in this report as well. He gave a penalty after an obstruction of Eoin the Rock (ref, this guy didn’t get this name for nothing!). Our penalty killer Michal could, after some beautiful reflexes, do nothing to prevent the opponent from scoring, 2-1.
Then all of a sudden, all the LX gentlemen had a look on their face of shitting in their pants, but under the lead of our captain Sahju, the team played very well in the second part of the second half. It was Peter from the right, Victor from the left who put more pressure. Also Titus in a later stage was very dangerous in front of the goal. Paolo, who had as always energy for 4, was all over the pitch and had to go the infuse to breath normally again. The two defenders Gio Torpedo (nice shot Gio) and Florian (WHO PLAYED A VERY NEUTRAL MATCH) were very solid in the defense. Of course we missed our president Pat, who was diving in the Maldives watching his telephone bill). On midfield there were Marco Lazio and later on Martin der Kaiser and Marco Primadonna (who was enthusiastic to play football again that he got injured another time – good recovery Marco!) who blocked the way for the opponent to get dangerous.
The third goal was a nice one. Peter Puskas took a corner with a nice touch and there was Endrik again who score a lovely goal with the head. Guys: this was a nice facet from the “totaal voetbal” which was invented by the Dutch!
After a own goal of the opponent which brought the score 4-1 we had some very nice chances to higher the score and we should have made the Monday morning feeling in the office for Victor much better. But at the end we can look back on a very good match with sometimes very nice football which resulted in disasters for the masters of Kapellen.
After some nice pompelmoentje-tonic we had the most fantastic news of the Saturday. The Snakes lost their match and now the goal of the trainer which we discussed just after the match with some players and tifosi can be a reality…….driving with an open double-decker on the Grand Place celebrating our championship.
I want to thank Fransesco for borrowing me the Gazzetta dello Sport for the dull moments and of course the sun for shining.
Thank you guys for the great match and let's close the championship, dai dai dai ragazzi!!!!
